A Day at School with Schizophrenia: A VR Experience

A Day at School with Schizophrenia is an immersive VR prototype designed to challenge the stigma surrounding schizophrenia. This first-person experience allows users to explore their environment from the perspective of someone living with the condition. The autorun feature, controlled by the Google Cardboard button, simulates feelings of derealisation and/or hallucination, such as floating and the inability to interact with seemingly unreal objects.

The experience incorporates auditory and visual hallucinations that alter the user's perception of the environment. Text is used to represent the character's inner thoughts, while the absence of human presence in the scenes highlights the isolation and loneliness often experienced by those with schizophrenia. By placing the condition in the context of real life, the VR experience aims to normalise schizophrenia and demonstrate the contrasting experiences of daily activities for those living with and without the condition.
